Match report
Having picked up that first away league win of the season last time out on the road, Kevin Wilkin’s men were clearly in the mood to prove that their travel sickness is well and truly behind them, as they raced into an early lead at Buxton. A quick break from the Bucks saw Ammar Dyer and Matty Stenson combine to free Jamie Meddows down the left, and Meddow squared the ball to Adan George who slid home past keeper Joe Young from close range.
A goal to the good, Telford looked comfortable for most of the first half, although there was little by way of further goalmouth action in the opening 45. Buxton did grow into the half, but the hosts failed to really test Josh Gracey in Telford goal. Perhaps the best chance came in the 44th minute, when Buxton’s Sam Robinson hit a stinging drive just wide of the post. 1-0 to Telford at the break.
After half time, Buxton upped their game and were keeping Wilkin’s men penned back. The Derbyshire side were passing it round neatly enough, but Telford were defending stoutly and there wasn’t too much for Gracey to do. But the hosts did have two good chances to level in quick succession in the 73rd minute. First, Luke Brennan put in an excellent cross that Jordan Piggott did well to turn behind as Johnny Johnston closed in. From the resultant corner, George Ward found himself in space only a few years out, but his header flashed just wide of the post.
And having survived that scare, Telford went down the other end and made it 2-0. Remi Walker pinched the ball back in the Buxton half and span on the ball before playing a sublime throughball to George, who rounded Young and slotted in his and the Bucks’ second goal on 76 minutes.
That was pretty much that. Charlie Williams might have added a third right at the death, but he couldn’t quite squeeze the ball home as Telford hit the hosts on the break. A 2-0 win for Wilkin’s men that sees the Bucks leapfrog their hosts and climb up to 14th in the table.
