Match Review

The Bucks produced their most complete performance of the season so far, brushing aside Spennymoor Town with style and confidence.

The Bucks made a positive start, as they looked to take the game to Spennymoor, although it was the visitors who fashioned the first good chance of the game, when looping 12th-minute free kick from Olly Dyson found Glen Taylor, who headed just over the bar. But the Bucks were the much livelier side, with Dylan Allen-Hadley in particular causing the Moors trouble.

In the 15th minute, a quick counter attack ended with Allen-Hadley firing in a shot that was comfortably dealt with by Moors keeper Brad James. But four minutes later, the Bucks had the lead when a ball through the middle released Allen-Hadley, who confidently rounded James and slotted home to make it 1-0 to the Bucks.

The Bucks were moving the ball well and were causing the Moors trouble, although there weren’t too many more clear cut chances for Wilkin’s men. Adan George was presented with a decent opening on 25 minutes, but he couldn’t quite get the power behind it to trouble the keeper. While Khanya Leshabela tested James right on half time, but the Bucks man’s 25-yard was easily held by the Moors keeper. 1-0 to the Bucks at the break.

The start of the second period was a frantic affair, as the Moors looked to make more of a mark on the game. There were some minor shouts for a Bucks penalty in the 47th minute, but referee Samuel Bragg adjudged Allen-Hadley to have dived and booked the Telford man as a result. Meanwhile, Spennymoor were looking better, and Matty Dolan went close on 50 minutes, but his 30-yard strike whistled wide of the post.

But after an even 15 minutes, the Wilkin’s men began to get back on top again, and the Bucks made it 2-0 in the 67th minute. Excellent pressure from Leshabela led to George picking up the ball around 30 yards from goal. George took a couple of touches before unleashing a rocket of a shot from 25 yard that flew past James and into the top corner. It was a wonderful strike that gave George his first goal for the Bucks.

The Moors had a chance on 72 minutes, when the ball dropped nicely to Taylor on the edge of the box, but his shot was well collected by Brandon Hall. The Bucks were looking confident now, though, and went in search of a third. An electric move from the Bucks saw Cranston free at the far post, but his effort was superbly saved by James.

With the Bucks 2-0 up and cruising, Kevin Wilkin introduced summer signing Jamie Meddows late on, to give the new man his first minutes for the Bucks; injury having kept the former Bromsgrove man out of the opening five games. And it was Meddows who put the cherry on the top of an excellent Telford performance. Charlie Williams pounced on a Moors mistake, and he squared for Meddows, who fired home with his second touch just moments after coming on.

A dominant 3-0 victory for the Bucks then, with a first clean sheet of the season and Meddows’ debut strike underlining an important win for Wilkin’s men.
