Women’s & Junior football has been brought to ‘an immediate end’

The Football Association have today confirmed that tiers three to seven of the women’s game have been brought to ‘an immediate end’ as a result of the coronavirus outbreak whilst they are still working on other aspects of football throughout the UK.

Tiers 3-7 of women’s football for the current season has been brought to a close with all results expunged.

Ladies Manager Darel Poole “We’re obviously disappointed that the season has finished. It looked like we were going to improve on our finishing position from the previous season, but now that won’t be. I fully respect the decision made by the FA and the priority has to be maintaining the safety and welfare of players, officials and their loved ones. I urge people to continue to adhere to the government guidelines, so that hopefully, this will pass as quickly as possible and we can get back to normality.

To our supporters: Thank you for being part of our journey this season. We are always grateful for your support and we can’t wait to see you next year.

To my players: You have worked extremely hard on all aspects of your games and I am proud to be part of this football club. Stay safe, stay well and we go again next season!

Furthermore, we can also confirm that the FA have decided that all grassroots football is concluded for the 2019-20 season.

This will allow the game to move forward and to commence planning for next season. We expect to hear from the Shropshire Football Associations over the coming weeks who will be supporting us to determine how our youth sides should close out their current competitions and respective leagues.

Football Operations Manager Luke Shelley “ We are all obviously disappointed but completely understand and support the decision that has been made this afternoon by the FA. It’s particularly disappointing for many of our junior sides that had done extremely well to finish the season either at the top of their respective leagues or find themselves in a cup final that was due to be played during the month of April and May.

“With the season drawing to an immediate close and with the Coronavirus on everyone’s mind it has prevented us from running our annual end of season awards night which has also been disappointing especially when we like to highlight the excellent work the players and coaches have done throughout the season”

“I would like to this opportunity to thank all the players, coaches & parents for the role they have played at AFC Telford United during the season. Please make sure you stay safe and we look forward to seeing you all next season”

The FA will continue to assist and support the National League to determine the outcome of the 2019-20 season as quickly as possible.

The planned implementation of the restructure of the NLS will also now be deferred until the start of the 2021-22 season.
