Club Statement – New Staff

As we announced in September our Football Operations Manager Luke Shelley is leaving AFC Telford United after today’s game and he joins Wolverhampton Wanderers as Operations Manager. The Board of Directors thank Luke again, he has done a fantastic job over his 12 years with the club, has made a huge contribution in the different roles he has held with us and has always gone above and beyond on everything he does. To be joining a Premier League Club is a well deserved step up in Luke’s career and he leaves us with our best wishes.

We confirm two new full time staff are joining us.

Toby Gray joins us from BBC Sport and will be our new Football Operations Manager. Toby starts with us on Monday 13th November. He has already shadowed Luke at our game at Kettering earlier this week and will do the same at today’s home game. Toby’s role will include taking over from Luke on football operations, club and matchday secretary, social media and other football club duties. Toby said:

“Absolutely delighted to be given this opportunity at AFC Telford, looking forward to starting and helping push the club forward.”

Tom Wellings starts with us on Monday 6th November as Foundation Manager and he will report to Ian Preece. Tom has been a volunteer at AFC Telford United for a number of years in addition to being part time at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Tom’s role for us will include managing our Foundation events and projects and will assist Ian in growing the various activities and free up some of Ian’s time to pursue further funding grants to support these projects in the community. Tom will also take over from Luke as Head of our Youth department and Goalzone Manager as well as other club duties. Tom said ‘“Ever since I joined the club this is something I have had a passion for, the new role will enable me to build a clear plan on how we can move the youth section forward and develop local footballers and also engage more with the community on other exciting projects”.

Finally Ian Preece is promoted to be a Director of AFC Telford United Foundation CIC, this is very well deserved and reflects the outstanding job he has done for us and is appropriate for the high level activities and contacts he is managing for us.
