The Coronavirus crisis has many people isolated and cut off from friends and family.
While it can be tough to stay at home all day, for many in our borough it can mean being alone in care homes or hospital, with no visitors and limited entertainment.
In a bid to ease loneliness, AFC Telford United are supporting Telford & Wrekin Council in launching a fundraising drive to buy 200 Kindles – or similar devices – to be donated for use at the Women’s and Children’s Centre at the Princess Royal Hospital and to care homes across the borough.
Residents in care homes have not been able to have visitors for a number of weeks already – missing vital interaction with family and friends and some with little access to technology.
They are missing their children, grandchildren and friends.
New mums who are in hospital for a long period are unable to have any more than very limited visits from partners, while they will also come in handy to keep children who are either awaiting treatment or are recuperating busy.
Therefore, Telford & Wrekin Council are hoping to raise £25,000 to buy 200 Kindles, or similar Android devices, and give these people a chance to download books, newspapers and magazines; play games and puzzles and keep in touch with family and friends.
The chance to enjoy some entertainment, keep informed and keep in touch with family and friends will give these groups a very welcome boost.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, will be a huge help.
