Worksop Town
3 v 1
AFC Telford
Match Review
The Bucks’ 100% league record in 2026 came to an end in Nottinghamshire, as Worksop Town ran out 3-1 winners at Sandy Lane.
It was a bad start for the Bucks as the hosts took the lead within a minute after a good move from the hosts. Aaron Martin was left unmarked six yards out in the centre of the box, and he nodded Lewis Whitham’s left-wing cross past Josh Gracey to make it 1-0 to the Tigers.
Kevin Wilkin’s men didn’t panic and gradually settled into the game, enjoying a decent share of the possession, albeit without the end product. The Bucks did have the ball in the net on 21 minutes when Remi Walker fired past Lewis Forshaw at his near post, but the goal was chalked ruled out for offside.
Walker fizzed another effort narrowly wide moments later, before Charlie Williams and Matty Stenson both flashed decent efforts over the bar. The Bucks couldn’t find a leveller before the break though, and Worksop went in 1-0 up.
Still looking to restore parity, the Bucks made the perfect start to the second half. After seeing an initial effort blocked by a Worksop defender, Stenson made no mistake for close range, smashing a shot past Forshaw from a few yards out.
It was all Telford now, as Wilkin’s men kept the Tigers well and truly penned in. Forshaw did well to deny Stenson when the Bucks’ top scorer was sent racing through, while Alex Fletcher drilled a rising shot just over after a lovely flowing move from the Bucks.
But having withstood a huge amount of pressure, the Tigers retook the lead on 70 minutes with their first real effort of the half. Debutant Oli Greaves found some space on the right of the box, and he lifted the ball over Gracey to find the net with a neat finish and make it 2-1.
The goal knocked the Bucks out of their rhythm and gave the hosts an energy boost. It was a more even game now, with both sides creating chances. The Bucks couldn’t find a way through though, and it was game over in the 95th minute when Greaves grabbed his second and the Tigers’ third. An error from Oli Cawthorne presented the ball to Greaves, and he made no mistake to put the game to bed.
This had all the hallmarks of “one of those days” – the Bucks had plenty of possession and lots of chances, but Worksop took their chances when they came.
