Match report
Despite the emphatic scoreline, there wasn’t too much by way of goalmouth action in the opening hour. The visitors started the game well, but the Bucks got stronger as the game wore on and were the much more likely side after the first 15 minutes.
After an intriguing but goalless first half, the Bucks came out with more purpose in the second half, as they looked to move the ball more quickly after the break. But it was Boro who grabbed the lead against the run of play on 62 minutes. A corner from the left caused chaos at the back post, and in the melee Luca Colville fired the ball home from close range.
But that goal seemed to stir the Bucks, who hit back immediately. From the restart, Jordan Piggott sent the ball into the left channel, where Charlie Williams collected and found Remi Walker, who in turn slipped the ball onto Jamie Meddows on the edge of the box. Meddows then rolled his marker before unleashing a strike that crashed in off the underside of the bar to bring the Bucks level.
Wilkin’s men had their tails up now and were playing some lovely football, and the Bucks then took the lead in the 73rd minute thanks to a nice move from back to front. Some neat link up play on halfway between Matty Stenson and Meddows, led to Jordan Cranston finding Walker in time and space on the edge of the box, and the Bucks in form midfielder calmly placed his shot past Whiteley, low to the keeper’s left.
Walker had his second, and the Bucks third, of the game not long after. Khanya Leshabela did well to win the ball back high up in the left channel, before the Bucks worked the ball to Walker just outside the area. And, from a similar position to his first goal, Walker struck a composed effort low into the bottom corner, this time to the keeper’s right.
The Bucks then added the cherry on top in the 90th minute. A long clearance from Whiteley was dealt with by Oliver Cawthorne, and the Bucks then worked the ball up the pitch in a flash. Fletcher found Leshabela who fed Ricardo Dinanga on the left wing, and the tricky winger jinked inside before hitting an admittedly scuffed effort that found its way past Whiteley at his near post.
While the Bucks had looked the more likely side during the first hour, it was going a goal down that really seemed to stir Telford into action. Wilkin’s men played some excellent stuff and had the Seadogs chasing shadows for much of the final 30 minutes. The Bucks thoroughly deserved the 4-1 win, which sees Wilkin’s men climb up to 17th.
