The festive fixture list sees the Bucks head to Aggborough this Tuesday evening to take on Kidderminster Harriers.
Kiddy narrowly missed out on the last year’s National League North title, losing 2-1 at Southport on the final day when three points would have seen them claim the crown. Harriers went on to lose the playoff semi final to Chester, which saw manager Phil Brown relieved of his duties.
The new man in the Kidderminster dugout is former Mansfield and Fylde boss Adam Murray. Murray arrives at Aggborough following a successful 18 months at Eastbourne Borough, who he transformed from relegation candidates to title challenges in his short stint at Priory Lane. And the new manager quickly set about rebuilding his squad in the wake of a number of high profile departures.
Harriers lost several key players in the summer, including centre backs Kyle Morrison (Brackley) and Reiss McNally (Hartlepool), midfielder Zak Brown (Brackley) and 33-goal top scorer Ashley Hemmings (Dag & Red). A raft of arrivals were brought in as replacements, but the new look Harriers struggled over the first few months of the season, and after a winless six-game run, reinforcements were called for in October. Off the pitch, Murray was reunited with his number 2 from Eastbourne, Stuart Watkiss, while in came defenders Owen Evans, Paul Kalambayi and Charlie Cooper, with attacker Michael Gyasi joining from King’s Lynn – the latter now unfortnately ruled out through ongoing health issues.
The changes seem to have worked. Kiddy have since produced eight wins from 13, including a current run of five straight victories in all competitions which saw Murray’s side inflict South Shields’ first home league defeat of the season before beating Fylde 1-0 just before Christmas. It’s a sequence that has seen Harriers put themselves back in the promotion picture, climbing back up to 4th and narrowing the gap to the top three. What’s more, Murray made a further notable signing at the start of December, with fan favourite Hemmings returning on loan from Dagenham.
The Bucks have been in good form too though, stringing together a nine-game unbeaten sequence including back-to-back away wins. Telford are second in the form table over the last six, in fact, with Kidderminster in fourth. Kevin Wilkin’s men will also be buoyed by memories of their 3-1 win over Harriers in the FA Cup back in September, when Orrin Pendley sealed success at the SEAH Stadium with a superb overhead kick.
That victory was only AFC Telford’s fourth in 19 games against Harriers, with Kidderminster winning 10. Since reforming, the Bucks have never beaten Kiddy in Worcestershire and have failed to find the net in any of the last six visits to Aggborough. But Wilkin’s men will be in confident mood having climbed up the table in recent weeks, and the Bucks will fancy their chances of setting the record straight on Tuesday night.
