"Bucks travel to title-chasing Tynesiders"
Match Date : January 18th, 2022 7:45 pm
Competition : National League North
Kick Off : 19:45
Telford travel to Tyneside to take on title-chasing Gateshead this Tuesday.
The Heed have become a regular fixture in the promotion picture ever since Mike Williamson took over as player manager in June 2019. The former Newcastle United man led Gateshead to a playoff semi final in his first season in charge, and the Heed were well-placed when the last campaign was ended early.
And this season Williamson’s side look like genuine title contenders. Williamson picked up the December Manager of the Month award and his Gateshead have won nine of their last 11 in the league. They currently sit in second spot, two points behind leaders Brackley Town but with a game in hand on the Northamptonshire club. The Tynesiders can also lay claim to the league’s best overall attack having scored 42 goals in 20 games (an average of 2.1 goals a game – equal with Kidderminster Harriers). While in Cedwyn Scott (12 goals) and Macaulay Langstaff (11 goals) they have the division’s best strike partnership too.
Scott was one of several new faces who arrived at Gateshead over the summer. Other new arrivals include forward Adam Campbell, who arrived from Darlington, defender Louis Storey, fresh from captaining Hebburn Town to the (2019/20) FA Vase title in May, and young midfielder Owen Bailey, who previously captained the Newcastle United U23 side.
AFC Telford have won two, drawn four and lost five of the 11 fixtures against The Heed, while the Bucks haven’t won in five visits to the Gateshead International Stadium. However, the Bucks haven’t lost either of the two match ups against the Tynesiders since Williamson took charge and won 1-0 when the sides last met.
