The Bucks will take on Yeovil Town in the last 16 of the FA Trophy at the SEAH Stadium this Saturday.
The Glovers have had a rollercoaster recent history. After an incredible rise that took them into the Championship in 2013-14 – their one and only season in the second tier – the club’s fortunes dipped sharply. A slide down the leagues saw them relegated out of the Football League at the end of the 2018–19 season before they then suffered demotion from Step 1 in 2022-23. Yeovil’s stay in the National League South was a brief one though, as they swept to the title, finishing 11 points clear of 2nd place Chelmsford City.
It was former Bucks boss Mark Cooper who had overseen both Town’s relegation to and promotion from Step 2, and he went on to lead the Glovers to 18th place in the National League Premier last season. But after three defeats in the first five games of the current campaign, Cooper was given the boot, with former Chesterfield coach Danny Webb appointed. However, Webb resigned after only one game, citing personal and family reasons for stepping down, and in doing so became Yeovil’s shortest-reigning permanent manager in their history.
Richard Dryden, who had taken interim charge following Cooper’s departure, was once more thrust into the hotseat on a temporary basis before Billy Rowley was appointed permanent boss at the end of November. Rowley had previously been at Southern Premier South runaway leaders Walton & Hersham, who he had led to 18 wins and two draws from 22 games in all competitions this term.
Rowley looked to be working his magic quickly at the Somerset club too, as the Glovers won his first three games in charge. However, a run of four points from five league games has followed, while Yeovil only just saw off Alvechurch in the last round of the Trophy on penalties. Town currently sit in 14th in the National League with 31 points from 27 games.
Luke McCormick has been the Glovers standout player this season having bagged eight goals from midfield following a summer switch from Bristol Rovers. Towering defender Jake Wannell captains the side.
The Bucks are the Nation League North’s form side having picked up 23 points from the last ten games. Kevin Wilkin’s men have suffered just one defeat in 14, in fact, while racking up 10 wins in all competitions, including victories over Chesham, Altrincham and Hornchurch to reach this stage of the Trophy. And with three four wins from four so far this year, the Bucks will be aiming to keep their perfect 2026 going this Saturday to earn a place in the quarter finals.
