"Bucks looking for a big performance against the Bards"

The Bucks travel to Warwickshire this weekend to take on Stratford Town.

The Bards began the season with a bang, walloping Needham Market 6-1. And while Stratford might not have been quite as good as the Suffolk club since, the Bards have had a strong season and currently sit in 5th place – one point and one place above the Bucks.

Stratford are led by former Buck Gavin Hurren. Hurren played under Rob Smith and Larry Chambers during the 2009/10 season, and relatively recently served as Foundation Manager at the New Bucks Head. There are plenty of other familiar faces in the Town squad, none more so than Lee Vaughan. The former Telford favourite is player assistant manager, with the Bards back line also featuring another ex Buck in the shape of Paul McCone. Meanwhile, Jack Storer, who featured once for the Bucks immediately before the pandemic hit, has been among the goals for the Bards this season.

It’s Callum Ebanks who the Bucks will really have to watch though. Ebanks has 15 league goals this season and has scored nine times in his last nine appearances, including hatricks in two of his last three games.

The Bards are currently on a five match unbeaten run that has seen them pick up 13 points from a possible 15. And four of those five games were at Knights Lane, where Stratford haven’t lost since Halloween. In fact, Hurren’s side have the league’s best home record, picking up 34 of their 49 points on home soil.

The Bucks beat the Bards 2-1 when the sides met back in October, and another three points for Kevin Wilkin’s men this Saturday would be a big help in the Bucks’ push for promotion.
