"Bucks seek first win of the season against the Moors"

Match Date : August 30th, 2025 3:00 pm
Competition : National League North
Ground : New Bucks Head
Kick Off : 15:00

The Bucks will face County Durham opponents for the second game in a row, as Kevin Wilkin’s men welcome Spennymoor Town to the SEAH Stadium this weekend.

Having made the long trip to Darlington on bank holiday Monday, the Bucks will be looking to build on their rousing second half comeback, where they showed resilience and character to earn a valuable point. With momentum on their side, the Bucks will be looking to bag a first win of the campaign against a side that we tend to fair well against.

The Moors have won just one out of 13 meetings with the Bucks, with both games ending 1-1 when  the sides last met in the 2022/23 season. Town have never won at the SEAH Stadium, in fact, with the Bucks winning four and drawing two of the games played in Shropshire.

However, the County Durham club are well-established as promotion contenders, although they have a quite remarkable record of missing out on the playoff places by the narrowest of margins. Since their promotion to the National League North in 2017, the Moors have only made the playoff places once that was during 2018/19, when they finished 4th before losing the playoff final to Chorley on penalties. Their other campaigns in Step 2 are scarcely believe such are the fine margins by which the Moors have missed out on the playoff places.  In 2017/18 they finished 8th, missing out on goal difference alone. In 2019/20, the Moors sat 6th when Covid ended the campaign early, but they fell to 8th when the table was adjusted for points per game (with the playoffs still taking place during this season). Their lowest finish came in 2021/22; but although they finished 10th, the Moors were still only three points off the top seven. And for the last three seasons Town have finished 9th, missing out on goal difference in 2022/23 and by a single point in each of the last two campaigns.

Graeme Lee’s men are clearly a good side then, and in Glen Taylor they have one of the league’s deadliest and most consistent goal scorers. Prior to 2025/26, the Moors’ all-time top scorer had hit 150 goals in the National League North at an average of 21 goals per campaign (discounting the two Covid seasons), and Taylor already has four in five this time around. Another club stalwart, midfielder Rob Ramshaw, is another man who the Bucks will have to keep an eye on this weekend.

The Moors currently sit in 5th on ten points thanks to wins over Hereford, Radcliffe and Oxford and a draw with Macclesfield on Monday. They were, though, walloped 5-0 by King’s Lynn at home in their other game.

Heading into Saturday’s fixtures, the Bucks and our opponents next Tuesday, Peterborough Sports, are the only two sides in the division yet to register a win this season. However, Kevin Wilkin’s men will feel frustrated not to have taken more than a solitary point from their two home outings, given they were the stronger side for large spells in both matches at the SEAH Stadium. And buoyed by their determined display at Darlington, the Bucks will be hoping to earn all three points this time around.
