"Bucks in the market for three points at Hereford"
Match Date : March 11th, 2023 3:00 pm
Competition : National League North
Ground : Edgar Street
Kick Off : 15:00
The Bucks travel to Hereford this weekend to face a Bulls side who have an outside chance of pinching a playoff spot.
Since returning to the National League North in the 2018-19 season, the Bulls have never been too far away from mid-table. Hereford have finished 12th in each of the last two season, so it’s no surprise that they currently sit in 10th spot. However, after a recent run of good form, the Bulls saw their playoff chances dented by a 2-0 defeat on Tuesday night, leaving Hereford seven points off the playoff places.
The Bulls also have a tendency to blow hot and cold, reflected by the fact that they have recorded the fewest draws in the division. Last season saw the Bulls flip between winning and winless streaks, and a similar pattern has unfolded this year too. After an up and down start to the campaign, the Bulls then racked up seven defeats in nine through November and December before picking up ten points from 15 in the first five games of 2023. But three straight defeats thereafter led the club to part ways with manager Josh Gowling.
And the Bulls have just about seen an uptick in form since they dispensed of Gowling’s services. Under the interim leadership of former assistant Yan Klukowski, Hereford have kept four clean sheets in eight to pick up 13 points from 24 – that includes a run of three wins from their last five, which itself includes a 3-1 success at title-chasing Fylde. In fact, the Bulls board saw enough promise in recent performance to confirm Klukowski as manager for the remainder of the season.
The Bulls squad includes to former Bucks in the shape of Zak Lilly and Tyrone Barnett, the latter being the Bulls’ top scorer with ten goals in all competitions so far this campaign.
AFC Telford have never beaten Hereford, but games between the Bucks and the Bulls tend to be tight, with eight of the nine games between the two clubs finishing either 0-0, 1-0 or 1-1. Hereford won 1-0 when the sides met at the New Bucks Head in November, and they won by the same score line at Edgar Street last April.
