Match Preview
"Telford take on table toppers Gateshead"
Match Date : February 26th, 2022 3:00 pm
Competition : National League North
Ground : New Bucks Head
Kick Off : 15:00
Free-scoring title-chasers Gateshead are the visitors to the New Bucks Head this weekend.
Unbeaten in four, The Heed arrive as the division’s top scorers and table toppers. The North East club have won eight of their last ten in the league and are currently six points clear at the top, but Kidderminster Harriers and Brackley Town both have two games in hand.
Particularly notable are Gateshead’s goal scoring feats. Having plundered 62 goals in 28 games up until now, the Tynesiders have scored ten goals more than anyone else in the division and have three players – Cedwyn Scott (18 goals), Macaulay Langstaff (17 goals) and Paul Blackett (10 goals) – in double figures for the league campaign.
Now in their third full season under the leadership of Mike Williamson, the Tynesiders have become a regular fixture in the promotion picture ever since the former Newcastle United man took over as player manager in June 2019. Williamson led Gateshead to a playoff semi final in his first season in charge, and The Heed were well-placed when the last campaign was ended early.
A number of new faces arrived on Tyneside in the summer, including goalgetter Scott. Other new arrivals include forward Adam Campbell, who arrived from Darlington, defender Louis Storey, fresh from captaining Hebburn Town to the (2019/20) FA Vase title in May, and young midfielder Owen Bailey, who previously captained the Newcastle United U23 side.
AFC Telford have won two, drawn four and lost six of the 12 fixtures against The Heed. After going a goal down, Gateshead put in a dominant display to beat Paul Carden’s men 4-1 in January, but the Bucks are unbeaten in the last two games on home soil against the Tynesiders.
