Match Preview
"Bucks aiming to storm the Citadel for three points this weekend"
Match Date : March 4th, 2023 3:00 pm
Competition : National League North
Ground : The Citadel
Kick Off : 15:00
The Bucks have another crunch clash next Saturday, when Kevin Wilkin’s men travel to Farsley Celtic.
The two sides finished level on 37 points last season, both narrowly avoiding relegation on the last day of the season. It’s perhaps of little surprise, then, that both clubs find themselves at the wrong end of the table again – albeit 23rd-place Celtic are closer to safety than the Bucks and have also reached the quarter finals of the FA Trophy.
Like the Bucks, Farsley went through three managers last season. After Adam Lakeland left for Curzon Ashton in October, Neil Ross held the reins for a brief and unsuccessful spell before Russ Wilcox took charge at the start of February 2022. In his first role as manager, Wilcox led Scunthorpe United to a 2nd place finish in League Two during the 2013/14, going unbeaten in his first 28 games – an unofficial world record at the time.
Celtic’s squad remains largely similar, with seasoned campaigners including Dave Syers, Chris Atkinson, Lewis Turner and Tom Allan providing experience in key areas. Up front, Jimmy Spencer, Luke Parkin and Frank Mulhern all have the ability to cause defences trouble, with Mulhern leading the way with eight goals so far this term.
Prior to Tuesday’s defeat against AFC Fylde, Farsley were unbeaten seven games, picking up 13 from 21 in that time. And although they remain in the drop zone, that run has seen Celtic move closer to safety – currently 23rd, they are one of five clubs (immediately above the Bucks) separated by just three points. What’s more, Celtic have a games in hand on all three of the sides that currently sit just above the dotted line (Blyth, Kettering and Boston).
The Bucks are unbeaten in three against Celtic but haven’t won any of the last four visits to the Citadel. And after four straight away day defeats, Kevin Wilkin’s men will be aiming to register three points on the road this weekend.
