AFC Telford take on Curzon Ashton this Saturday at the New Bucks Head.
The Nash have had an interesting time of it since the end of January, with the Tamesiders flicking from an impressive five-in-six winning streak, during which they scored 17 goals, to a run of consecutive three defeats – including reversals at struggling Kettering and Leamington. But Curzon then ended that losing run with a 3-1 win over high flyers Brackley last weekend. And that sense of boom or bust is reflected in the fact that the Nash have drawn the fewest games in the division.
The man in charge at the Tameside Stadium is Adam Lakeland, who arrived from Farsley Celtic at the end of October 2021. And while Curzon’s form has been up and down under Lakeland, the Nash ended up in 14th place, which was their second best-ever finish. Currently in mid-table once more, 15th-place Curzon also made it to the FA Cup First Round before being knocked out on penalties by League One Cambridge United.
Lakeland has raided his former club Farsley for a number of experienced faces; midfielders Sam Walker and Will Hayhurst both arrived in the summer, while forward Jimmy Spencer joined in February. But it’s two former Bucks who lead the way for the Nash, with Tom Peers and Josh Hancock netting 13 and nine league goals respectively. Meanwhile, recent arrival Hayden Campbell (Marine) has bagged three goals in his last two outings.
While AFC Telford famously haven’t won on any of their seven visits to Tameside, the Bucks have picked up seven points from the last three games between the sides at the New Bucks Head. That includes a last season’s 2-1 win for the Bucks, with Harry Flowers the scorer for the Nash that day.
Curzon cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over the Bucks on Tameside in November, but the Bucks head into Saturday’s game on the back of three consecutive clean sheets. And Kevin Wilkin’s men will be looking to turn in a similarly resolute display as the Bucks search for three points this weekend.
