Match Preview
"Bucks take on high-flying Magpies"
Match Date : January 31st, 2023 7:45 pm
Competition : National League North
Ground : Victory Park
Kick Off : 19:45
The Bucks head to Victory Park this Tuesday to face Chorley.
Telford have, of course, already played and beaten the Magpies this season – a 1-0 success on opening day courtesy of Devarn Green’s strike. But the two sides’ fortunes have been a little different since then.
While the Bucks have struggled at the wrong end of the table, Chorley have steadily improved under new boss Andy Preece, and they currently sit just inside the playoff places in 7th spot.
Preece replaced former Telford favourite Jamie Vermiglio as the Magpies manager following the former Buck’s switch to Buxton in the summer. And Preece, who previously served as Chorley’s director of football, has made the Magpies hard to beat. Only King’s Lynn and Banbury United have beaten Chorley by more than one goal this season, with Preece’s side notching 12 clean sheets in their 27 league games so far (including three in their last four outings).
The Lancashire club take pride in maintaining continuity and, despite Vermiglio’s departure, their squad remains largely unchanged, with little movement in or out this summer. Dangerman Connor Hall is among the division’s top scorers with 14 goals this campaign, while John Ustabasi has notched seven times in the league.
Chorley secured their place in the playoffs last term with a 1-0 win when the sides met at Victory Park last April. But Kevin Wilkin’s men head into Tuesday’s game unbeaten in six and on the back of four points from the last two away games. If the Bucks can put in another strong performance on the road on Tuesday, Wilkin’s men could well replicate August’s opening day result.
