The Bucks will finally be back in action at the SEAH Stadium this Saturday, when King’s Lynn Town will be the visitors.
Having re-formed in 2010, the Linnets spent the next decade climbing the pyramid. The Norfolk club took their place in the National League North for the first time in 2019/20, and they promptly marched straight on through to Step 1 by claiming the title in the Covid-affected campaign. Two seasons of struggle in the National League Premier followed, with the Linnets reprieved from relegation in 2020/21 before eventually succumbing to the drop in 2021/22.
Back in Step 2, King’s Lynn have tended to challenge at the top end of the table. An 18th-place finish in 2023/24 was a low point, but it was sandwiched between 2nd and 6th place finishes, and Town were expected to be in the promotion mix again this year.
Despite that 6th-place finish last season, manager Adam Lakeland was shown the door in favour of James Rowe, which saw Town head into the season as second favourites for the league behind Kidderminster.
After a decent start to the season, Rowe resigned at the end of September, with Ian Culverhouse returning to the Walks for a third spell in charge of the Linnets. After an initial run of 11 points from his first five league games in charge, Culverhouse’s side are currently in the midst of a seven-match winless sequence. Town currently sit 17th on 29 points.
Star man Michael Gyasi departed on loan for Kidderminster in November, but Ross Crane, Morgan Williams and Reece Hall-Johnson have all been among the goals this season. In midfield, captain and fan favourite Michael Clunan returned in the summer having led Scunthorpe to promotion last year.
The Bucks haven’t won any of the seven games played against the Linnets, but Kevin Wilkin’s men put in a battling display in Norfolk on the opening day to pick up a point with a 1-1 draw. The Bucks have been in good form recently too, registering eight wins, three draws, and only one defeat in the last 12 outings. So, Wilkin’s men will be looking to extend that good run and finally pick up all three points against the Linnets, as the Bucks look to push on towards the playoffs.
