"Bucks looking for a big three points against the Hoops"

Match Date : November 25th, 2025 7:45 pm
Competition : National League North
Ground : New Bucks Head
Kick Off : 19:45

The Bucks will be back in action at the SEAH Stadium on Tuesday night, when Oxford City will be the visitors.

First promoted to Step 2 in 2012, the Hoops had three seasons in the National League North before being transferred to the South for the 2017/18 campaign. The switch set City back a little, but after three mid-table finishes the Hoops emerged as a regular contender at the top end of the table, finally achieving promotion to Step 1 after winning the playoff In 2022/23. But the Hoops’ stay in non-league’s top tier lasted only one season, as they finished rock bottom and returned to Step 2, this time being placed in the North.

Oxford struggled on their return to this level, finishing 19th last season. And Ross Jenkins’ side haven’t made the best of starts to the current campaign either. After a decent four-point haul against tricky opposition in the shape of Fylde, Macclesfield and Kidderminster to kick off the campaign, City then lost nine of their next 12 league games. Back-to-back home wins over Hereford and Worksop gave the Hoops a boost, but Jenkins’ side currently sit in 22nd on 16 points having played 19 games so far – one more than anyone else in the league.

The Hoops have had no trouble finding the net this season, with goals coming from across the team. Midfielder Tom Scott has been one of their most influential performers, contributing five goals so far, while experienced forward Josh Parker is once again a key man in the City attack and has four strikes to his name. Captain Josh Ashby, who has been with the club since 2018, has also chipped in with some important goals in recent weeks. Oxford have struggled at the other end though, conceding 32 goals, although their goalless draw at Marine on Saturday means that City have now kept three clean sheets in their last five games. Jamie Pardington, who played in goal for the Bucks in the 6-0 demolition of Darlington in the FA Cup, made his debut for the Hoops on Saturday having recently joined the Marsh Lane club on loan from Lincoln City.

The Bucks picked up a good point against table toppes South Shields on Saturday, although Kevin Wilkin will be looking to improve on a run of two points from four games. And the Bucks have been good on home soil, picking up 14 points at the SEAH Stadium. Oxford, meanwhile, have the league’s worst away record with just three points on their travels this term; their last win on the road coming on 1 April at a beleaguered Farsley Celtic.

It’s been over a decade since the sides last met; Oxford winning 2-0 at Marsh Lane, while Liam Watson’s side won 4-0 at the New Bucks Head during the title-winning 2013/14 campaign. And with both teams still seemingly stronger on home soil, the Bucks will be targeting another valuable three points on Tuesday night.
