"Bucks aiming to put Silkmen in a spin"

Match Date : November 8th, 2025 3:00 pm
Competition : National League North
Ground : Moss Rose
Kick Off : 15:00

The Bucks travel to Cheshire this Saturday to take on in-form Macclesfield.

The current incarnation of the Moss Rose outfit is just five years old, forming in October 2020 following the winding up of the previous Macclesfield Town a month earlier. Aside from a six-year spell at Step 1 of non-league, Town had spent the majority of their final two decades in League Two, but the Silkmen were subsequently demoted to the North West Counties Football League, with their first campaign being the 2021-22 season.

And Macc have wasted no time in climbing their way back up the pyramid. Macclesfield have earned three promotions in their four seasons so far (all as champions), including last year’s stroll to the Northern Premier League title. The Silkmen racked up a record-breaking 109 points to finish 26 points clear of runners up Worksop Town, while also keeping impressive 23 clean sheets and laying claim to the division’s top scorer in 35-goal Danny Elliott.

With big ambitions to continue their climb back up levels, Macc quickly signed title-winning manager Robbie Savage to a new two-year deal in June. However, two weeks later Savage opted to become Forest Green Rovers’ new manager and took four of the Silkmen’s key players with him.

The man appointed in Savage’s wake is former Silkmen striker John Rooney. Although Macc brought in a number of new faces in the summer, Rooney has largely stuck by the players who got the Silkmen promoted last year. And his loyalty has largely been repaid, as Macclesfield have made a solid start to the season. Currently 8th on 24, Macc could be as high as 4th if they win their games in hand, while they beat AFC Totton 6-3 last weekend to advance to the FA Cup Second Round. The Silkmen are currently in a rich vein of form, too, having won their last six games in all competitions, including becoming the first team to beat title-chasers South Shields this season. Macc’s run has, in part, been propelled by dangerman Danny Elliott, who has hit six goals in his last four outings.

Kevin Wilkin will be looking for a reaction after back-to-back defeats in league and cup, as the Bucks go in search of a first away league win this season. And the Bucks will have to be on their mettle to pick up all three points at Moss Rose, where Macclesfield have picked up 16 points from eight games so far.
