Match Review

The Bucks are into the FA Cup First Round after demolishing Darlington 6-0.

Kevin Wilkin’s men raced into an early lead when Dylan Allen-Hadley stabbed home from close range in the 8th minute following a horrible fumble by Quakers keeper of Peter Jameson. And the Bucks didn’t look back from there.

It was 2-0 on 27 minutes; Matty Stenson marking his return to the starting line up with a well taken finish from Jordan Cranston’s excellent curling ball in from the left. Allen-Hadley could have made it three shortly afterwards, but this time he could only fire over under pressure. The Bucks were in dreamland by the 36th minute though, as Wilkin’s men took a 4-0 lead. On 33 minutes, Ammar Dyer’s low ball into the box was turned into his own net by Toby Lees under pressure from Stenson. Before Stenson himself did then grab his second of the game, sliding in from close range after good work from Remi Walker doen the right.

Telford were in complete control and might have had another when Walker fired just wide shortly before half time, but the Bucks had to settle for a 4-0 lead at the break.

The Quakers were slightly better after the break and forced the Bucks’ debutant keeper, Jamie Pardington, in one or two good stops. In the 71st minute, a cross from the right narrowly evaded the reach of Pardington, but Jordan Piggott was on hand to clear off the line and the Quakers could only lash the follow up over the bar.

But after that scare the Bucks went down the other end and made it 5-0. A through ball found substitute Adan George, who rolled his man before coolly slotting home across Jameson. And George then grabbed his second and the Bucks’ sixth goal of the game in the 84th minute. Rhys Hilton slid a lovely ball through the Darlo defence, and George drew Jameson off his line before calmly rolling home past the beleaguered keeper.

The 6-0 win is AFC Telford’s biggest ever victory in the FA Cup, and it was no fluke. Kevin Wilkin’s men were excellent all over the park and earned the Bucks a place in the First Round for the first time in eight years.
