The Bucks face Evesham in the Emirates FA Cup third round qualifying this Saturday.
Led by former Oxford City and Banbury United boss Mike Ford, the Robins have enjoyed a successful spell in recent years. Following Ford’s arrival in the summer of 2022, Evesham finished 4th and then 7th in Southern League Division One South, before finishing as runners up to Yate Town last season. The Robins went on to beat Exmouth Town and Malvern Town in the playoff to secure their place in Step 2.
And the Worcestershire club are more than holding their own in Southern League Premier South. Evesham are currently 9th, two points off the playoff places, having lost just two of their games so far this season and recording notable draws with promotion favourites Gloucester City and Poole Town. In the FA Cup, meanwhile, the Robins beat Bromsgrove 5-2 before seeing off Racing Club Warwick after a replay.
Evesham’s dangerman is Levi Steele, who has hit 21 goals in each of his last two seasons with the Robins, including the winner in May’s 1-0 playoff final victory over Malvern. Steele is joined in attack by former Buck Andre Wright, who arrived from Stratford Town in July. Both Steele and Wright have each hit six goals apiece this season. Attacking midfielder Amer Awadh captains the side.
Evesham head into Saturday’s game unbeaten in five, while the Bucks will be looking to build on some impressive recent form at the SEAH Stadium. After league wins over Spennymoor and Peterborough, the Bucks put in a strong showing to see off Kidderminster in the last round of the Cup.
That win over Kiddy was only the Bucks’ third win in their last ten FA Cup outings. But if Kevin Wilkin can guide his men past the Robins, the first competitive meeting between the two sides, the Bucks will make it past the third qualifying round for the first time since 2017-18.
