"Bucks looking to make an Impact in Alfreton"

Match Date : September 20th, 2025 3:00 pm
Competition : National League North
Ground : The Impact Arena
Kick Off : 15:00

The Bucks will be back in league action next Saturday, when Kevin Wilkin takes his men to Derbyshire to face Alfreton Town at the Impact Arena.

It has been a difficult start for the Reds, who sit 22nd in the table with just six points from their opening eight games. One of the division’s most established outfits, Alfreton have often been contenders in recent years, but their 2025/26 campaign has yet to gather momentum.

Results have certainly been hard to come by for the Derbyshire club, with a 5-0 drubbing at Oxford City underlining a shaky opening month. Indeed, that defeat saw long-serving boss Billy Heath given the boot, with the Reds turning to a data-driven approach in the hope of creating an ambitious and modern football club.

The new man in charge is academy director Demaro Woodruffe, who takes the reins on an interim basis with former Walsall academy coach Ryan Conneely in support. The duo inherited what was at the time the division’s worst attack and joint-worst defence, but they made a positive start to their reign with a credible 1-1 draw with King’s Lynn in their first game in charge. However, a 3-0 defeat at Spalding in the FA Cup suggests that duo will be looking for further improvements at both ends.

In the league, the Reds have conceded 16 while notching just six goals of their own so far this term. Perhaps encouragingly, those goals have come from five different players, with Billy Fewster nudging out in front as the Reds’ top scorer with two strikes to his name. Much of Town’s summer business had a distinctly youthful feel, with players such as 20-year-old forward Ben Beresford (Birmingham) and 22-year-old attack Terell Pennant (Kettering) among the arrivals. While former Rangers, Bolton and Doncaster winger Joe Dodoo offers the Reds more experience in attacking areas.

Alfreton are the side that AFC Telford have faced the most, and until relatively recently the head-to-head record was fairly even. However, the Bucks have picked up just two wins from the last 10 encounters with the Reds. Town have, in fact, won the last five meetings between the sides, and you have to go back to Boxing Day 2019 for the last Telford win.

The Bucks have picked up three home wins on the spin but are still looking for a first away victory of the campaign. Kevin Wilkin’s men will be hoping to change that record at the Impact Arena this weekend.
