"Bucks aiming to make it two wins on the spin against the Turbines"

Match Date : September 2nd, 2025 7:45 pm
Competition : National League North
Ground : New Bucks Head
Kick Off : 19:45

The Bucks will be back in action at the SEAH Stadium again this Tuesday evening, when Peterborough Sports will be the visitors.

It feels slightly surprising that the Turbines only took their bow in Step 2 during the 2022/23 season. Now in a fourth year at this level, Sports had long been on the radar of non-league fans after their record-breaking march up the pyramid under then-manager Jimmy Dean. Following three promotions in four years under Dean, Covid delayed their arrival in the National League North, but the Turbines eventually made the step up after winning the Southern Premier League Central playoffs in 2021/22.

Having charged up the leagues, the Cambridgeshire side have settled at Step 2, where they have been remarkably consistent. Finishes of 14th, 15th and 12th have seen them record points totals of 57, 58, and 63, respectively.

Jointly managed by former Manchester United goalkeeper Luke Steele and veteran goalgetter Michael Gash, the Turbines had a busy summer bringing in a raft of new faces. Among the arrivals are three former Kettering men – left back Aaron Powell, forward Luca Miller and former Buck Sam McLintock – who all featured in May’s playoff final at Latimer Park. Key attacking signing Shaq Coulthirst (Maidstone) has yet to feature having picked up a knee injury in pre-season, but seasoned campaigner Elliott Whitehouse has been a fixture in the Turbines midfield since his arrival on loan from Macclesfield. Perhaps Peterborough’s most notable signing though, was Australian footballer Josh Cavallo, who in 2021 became the only known out gay top-flight player in the world at the time.

Heading into Saturday’s fixtures, Peterborough and the Bucks were the only two sides in the division who were yet to register a win this season, but both teams recorded victories on the weekend. The Turbines’ 1-0 win at Marine lifts them off the bottom and up to 23rd on four points, while the Bucks jumped up to 16th – albeit Kevin Wilkin’s men only two points more than Sports.

The Turbines beat the Bucks home and away during the 2022/23season – the only two meetings between the clubs to date. But that could offer Wilkin’s men extra incentive, as they look to set the record straight and claim all three points on Tuesday night.
