Match Review

Bucks set a date with Ilkeston after cup progression.

AFC Telford Women were in action in the Second Qualifying Round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup away at East Midlands Regional League side Belper Town. Having seen last weeks game postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, both teams knew a win would give them a home tie against Ilkeston Town Ladies in the next round.

Manager Alex Owens made a single change to the side that were held to a draw in the league against Hednesford Town last time out; Katie Ryan coming in to replace the absent Meg Jones

It was the home side who started the brightest with a few half chances to take lead. The deadlock was broken on 11 minutes with a smart finish past Mia Bansal.

The lead lasted a matter of 3 minutes as Charlotte Budd played a brilliant one two with Skye Hipkiss before finishing confidently. Throughout the first half the away side kept knocking on the door looking to take a lead into half time and they did so in the 42nd minute. A great run from Sasha Woodhouse resulted into a cross which couldn’t be cleared by the home side leaving Hipkiss with a tap in for her second of the season.

As the half time break approached we managed to stretch our lead to two as Sasha Woodhouse was brought down on the edge of the box and an Abby White free kick was lofted high into the box out of reach of Belper keeper.

HALF TIME: Belper Town 1 AFC Telford 3

The Bucks started the second half as they ended the first, on the front foot in search of a fourth goal to kill the game. The fourth goal came from Abby White releasing Budd down the left and a well taken finish from Budd placing the ball in the near corner for her second of the game.

The scoring was complete in the 78th minute as Abbie Baldwin, who had been causing the hosts a number of issues since coming on picked up her first of the season. Baldwin received the ball deep in the opposition half from Katie Ryan. She ran with the ball to the edge of the opposition box to finish the ball into the top right hand corner leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.

We created a number of chances late on in the game to stretch the result further but it remained at 5 and ensured the Bucks will face Ilkeston at home on the 13th October.

Best wishes to Belper Town for the remainder of the season and thank you for your hospitality.

FULL TIME: Belper Town 1 AFC Telford 5
