AFC Telford
Match Review
The Bucks fell to a disappointing 3-1 defeat at Alvechurch this afternoon.
Kevin Wilkin’s men started the game relatively well and looked comfortable enough for the opening half an hour. The Bucks nearly took the lead in the 16th minute when Jimmy Armson stabbed the ball against the bar after good work from Matty Stenson. Before the Bucks then found the breakthrough in the 30th minute. Ellis Brown broke away down the left and was brought down as he made his way into the box, and the Bucks’ top scorer, Stenson, stepped up to confidently rifle his penalty passed Ronnie Hollingshead in the Alvechurch goal.
But that was as good as it got for Wilkin’s men. Whether it was the Bucks who fell away or Church who upped their game after going behind, the sides were level soon after. Joe Willis’ shot deflected in off Sam Whittall to give Alvechurch a fortunate equaliser in the 38th minute. And much like the recent game at Royston, the Bucks couldn’t see out the half on level terms, as their defensive wobbles led to Jimmy Armson giving away a penalty in added time. In form Church forward Dylan Allen-Hadley did the rest from the spot to send Tim Flowers’ side 2-1 up at the break.
And it was 3-1 shortly after half time, as Allen-Hadley fired home in the 50th minute. The Bucks did have the ball in the net shortly afterwards, but Brown’s strike was ruled out for offside. And that was about that from Wilkin’s men, who struggled to really test the Church defence thereafter. When the Bucks did manage to fashion a good opening or two, they couldn’t find a way passed Hollingshead, who made a couple of decent stops in the second period.
Results elsewhere mean that the Bucks are now 4th but are still just one point off leaders Bedford Town, who come to the SEAH Stadium on Tuesday night.
