Stamford
Match Review
The Bucks moved to the top of the table thanks to a hard fought 2-0 win over Stamford.
The first half was an uneventful affair that saw limited goalmouth action from either side. Both sides were dogged and organised, with neither truly worried defensively. It was no surprise, then, that the sides went into the break at 0-0.
But the Bucks moved through the gears after half time, as Kevin Wilkin’s men pushed and probed for the opener. Although the Bucks were definitely on top, Stamford were still defending resolutely and looked dangerous on the break.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 79th minute, and the Bucks’ had top scorer Matty Stenson to thank for the lead. Stamford keeper Tom Jackson made a complete hash of a attempting to claim Ellis Myles cross into the box, with the ball falling to the feet of Stenson, who tapped home into an empty net from eight yards.
Six minutes later it was 2-0, as the Bucks extended their lead thanks to a marvellous team goal. Good build up play from Ellis Myles, Max Brogan and Jakub Kruszynski ended with Matty Stenson laying the ball off to Jimmy Armson, who fired home from around the penalty spot.
With Kettering losing at Redditch, the win moves the Bucks two points clear at the top of the table, albeit the Poppies have two games in hand.
