"Bucks looking to beat the Blues this weekend"

The Bucks are on the road this weekend, when Kevin Wilkin will take his men to Hertfordshire to take on Bishop’s Stortford.

After winning the Isthmian Premier League title in 2022-23, the Blues were placed in the National League North for the 2023-24 – much to the consternation of the club located within a stone’s throw of London Stansted Airport. With a sharp increase in the amount of travel time, Stortford had to recruit an almost entirely new squad and subsequently struggled in their new surroundings. The Blues finished rock bottom with just 21 points from their 46 games, scoring 35 and while racking up a sizeable 112 goals against.

The disappointing campaign led to another summer of change at Woodside Park. Former Royston Town manager Steve Castle took the reins and brought in several new faces. Full back Cole Dasilva (Bedford Town), defender Jake Thopmson and midfielder Bradley Russell (both Brightlingsea Regent) and Fabio Virciglio (Royston Town) are some of the arrivals who have since gone on to become first team regulars. Another of the new men, Jack Roberts, is the Blues’ top scorer with eight league goals to his name after joining from Braintree Town.

The new look Stortford side made a positive start to the season, picking up 14 points from their first eight games. However, some very topsy turvy form since then has seen the Blues bounce around the upper and lower echelons of a very congested mid-table. Currently 16th, Castle’s side have picked up four points from their last six games and now sit just four points above the drop.

The Bucks ran out convincing 4-1 winners at the SEAH Stadium when the sides met earlier in the campaign, and Wilkin’s men will no doubt be looking for a similar performance this Saturday.
