Match Preview

"Bucks looking for three important points against the Daniels"

Match Date : January 18th, 2025 3:00 pm
Competition : Southern League Premier Central
Ground : New Bucks Head
Kick Off : 15:00

After three away games in a row, the Bucks will be on home soil for the first time in 2025, with Stamford the visitors to the SEAH Stadium this Saturday.

The Lincolnshire club narrowly missed out on the playoffs last season, finishing just three points shy of the top five. In fact, the Daniels would have faced the Bucks in the playoff semi final had they beaten Mickleover on the final day, but a 3-0 defeat saw them finish up in 7th spot. And 7th is where they currently find themselves this season, just one point outside of the playoff places and four points behind the Bucks.

The man in charge at the Zeeco Stadium is Graham Drury, who is currently in his third spell in charge of the club. Drury first took the reins in Lincolnshire back in 2005 but left in 2008, spending four years in charge of Corby. Drury then briefly returned to the Daniels in 2012 before an even briefer spell in charge of Boston United followed. Drury finally returned to the Zeeco in November 2015.

Drury has kept the core of his squad together but still strengthened with a number of new faces over the summer. Key arrivals include keeper Tom Jackson (North Ferriby), combative full back Charlie Marzano (Quorn and Kettering), defender Jordon Cooke (Cleethorpes Town), and young attacker Tobias Liversidge (Lincoln United). Last season’s top scorer, Jack Duffy, has nine goals to his name so far this season, while Drury has recently added to his attacking options with the arrivals of Cosmos Matwasa, who Kevin Wilkin signed for Brackley in 2022, and Kai Tonge, who caused the Bucks trouble earlier this season when he came off the bench for Harborough Town.

The Bucks have beaten the Daniels on all three occasions that the sides have met in the league. That includes a 2-1 win in last season’s corresponding fixture at the New Bucks Head and September’s excellent 3-1 away win at the Zeeco. With the table congested and seemingly all sides struggling for consistency, the Bucks would make a real statement of intent if they can pick up another three points against the Daniels this weekend.
