Competition : National League North

The Bucks travel to title-chasing King’s Lynn Town this Tuesday, having just faced their title rivals AFC Fylde on Saturday.
The Linnets headed into the weekend’s round of fixtures ahead of the Coasters on goal difference alone, but they’ve had some surprising stutters in recent weeks and head into Tuesday’s game without a win in three. In their last ten league games, Town have lost at Farsley and Buxton and drew at Blyth, and they failed score in any of those three games. Meanwhile, Saturday saw Chester become the first team to take all three points away from The Walks this season. The Norfolk outfit do still have the division’s best home record though, recording ten wins and a draw from their other 11 games on home soil.
The Linnets, of course, won the National League North in Covid-affected 2019/20 season. Town had two fewer points than York when the season was cut short, but they claimed the title by dint of having a better points per game ratio. Two seasons of struggle in the National League Premier followed. After a reprieve from relegation in the 2020/21 season, King’s Lynn finished last season in 21st, nine points adrift of safety.
Title-winning boss Ian Culverhouse left the Norfolk outfit in November 2021, with former Southampton midfielder Tommy Widdrington taking the reins. And although Widdrington – who has previously managed Salisbury, Hemel Hempstead and Eastbourne Borough – couldn’t keep the Linnets up, his King’s Lynn team have been around the top of the table all season.
After an even opening 60 minutes, King’s Lynn eventually cantered to a 4-0 victory when the sides met at the New Bucks Head earlier this campaign. But the Bucks have had a change of management since then, of course, and Kevin Wilkin’s men have turned in some determined displays on the road, even if results haven’t always followed.
Telford’s six-game unbeaten run has morphed into a run of six without a win. But if the Bucks can find three points on Tuesday, it will have a big impact at both ends of the table.
