"Telford take a trip to face the Pilgrims"

Match Date : October 12th, 2021 7:45 pm
Competition : National League North
Ground : The Jakemans Community Stadium
Kick Off : 19:45

Telford travel to Lincolnshire this Tuesday to take on Boston United.

Originally scheduled for the start of September, the fixture had to be postponed because of Covid.

Under boss Craig Elliott the Pilgrims have established themselves as annual promotional hopefuls. And they may well have succeeded in reaching the National League Premier if it weren’t for the pandemic. Boston were well-placed in 3rd when the 2019/20 season came to an early conclusion and sat 6th when the last campaign came to an end – but the Pilgrims again ranked 3rd on points per game.

Unsurprisingly, then, Elliott hasn’t made too many changes to his squad. But Boston have added one of the league’s most consistent central midfielders in the shape of Shane Byrne, who arrives after five years at Brackley Town. Former Chester forward Danny Elliott has also arrived after a brief spell at Hartlepool in which he helped them reach League Two. Elliott has eight goals in ten games so far for Boston.

The Pilgrims are expected to challenge towards the top of the table once again. But while the Boston have chalked up to thumping wins in the FA Cup to progress to the final qualifying round, they’ve made an inconsistent start to their league campaign. The Pilgrims currently lie in 14th with nine points from seven games and, like the Bucks, are among the league’s lower scorers with eight so far

Elliott’s side ran out 3-2 winners when the sides met at Gainsborough Trinity’s Northolme last season. The Pilgrims have since moved into their new home back in Boston. The Jakemans Community Stadium opened in December 2020, with the Lincolnshire club having won three of their first seven league games in their new surroundings.

The Bucks will be hoping that their visit to Boston’s new ground is a successful one, and current Telford chief and former Pilgrims gaffer, Dennis Greene, will no doubt want to get one over his old club. It’s a decade since the Buck last won away at Boston, losing six and drawing two in that time, so Greene and the Bucks will be looking to set the record straight this Tuesday.
