"Bucks take on Biggleswade in Tuesday night tussle"
Match Date : February 4th, 2025 7:45 pm
Competition : Southern League Premier Central
Ground : New Bucks Head
Kick Off : 19:45
The Bucks will be back on home soil for the third time in eight days on Tuesday, when Biggleswade Town will be the visitors to the SEAH Stadium.
The Waders won the Southern Football League Division One Central title last season, seeing off a late charge from Bedford Town to clinch the crown on the last day of the season. Biggleswade averaged two points per game last season, as they returned to Step 3 after two campaigns at Step 4.
But after having to almost completely revamp their squad during the summer, the Waders have struggled this campaign. Biggleswade have been bottom of the table for much of the season, and they currently lie some 15 points from safety. It was something of a surprise then, that the Waders made it further in the FA Trophy than any other Southern League Premier Central side, reaching the 4th Round before falling to Oxford City.
Jimmy Martin’s side picked up only their second league win of the season nine days ago, running out 1-0 winners at home to St Ives. But the Waders picked up only 4 points from the 14 games between that success and their win at Bishop’s Stortford at the end of September, and they lost again this Saturday, going down 3-2 at Royston.
As Biggleswade’s struggles have continued, important players have departed the club. Theo Ofori returned to Ware Town in November after 5 goals in 18 games for the Waders, while the dangerous Eddie Panter joined high flyers Bedford. But Biggleswade have kept hold of top scorer Cyrus Babaie, who has 11 goals in all competitions, including the equaliser against the Bucks in the 1-1 opening day draw.
Saturday’s goalless draw with Harborough was enough to keep the Bucks top of the table, and Kevin Wilkin’s men will be looking for a result on Tuesday to keep them out in front of the chasing pack.
