Second Successive Tom Farmer Cup Final For Bucks Women
Friday night is cup final night for AFC Telford Women as they face Shifnal Town Ladies in the final of the Tom Farmer Shropshire Women’s County Cup. It’s the second successive final appearance having been runners up to Shrewsbury Town last season. For the Bucks is the opportunity to pit themselves against higher league opposition in the form of Shifnal, a side they have played on many occasions over the years.
The Bucks have had a very stop start run in the competition. They were first given a walkover against Shawbury United before hosting Shropshire Womens League leaders Telford Town. Second half goals from Rom Evans, Sasha Woodhouse and Liv Bellamy booked them a tie against Meresiders in the Quarter Finals. However, that wasn’t to be as they received another walkover into the semi finals where they faced Worthen Juniors. It was a tricky start to match against a young and hungry Worthen side but they surged ahead in the second half to record a 7-2 victory and a place in the final. Goals coming from Jem Smith (2), Hope Dunn (2), Sasha Woodhouse (2) and Abby White.
For Shifnal they received a walkover against Ellesmere Ranger before beating Allscott Heath in the quarter finals. That set up a semi final against Shropshire Womens League side Shrewsbury Up & Comers where they ran out 5-0 winners. The Bucks head into the game as the underdogs with Shifnal playing one tier higher in the West Midlands Premier League.
If history is anything to go by it is sure to be a physical test for the Bucks.
