Bucks thirsty for Trophy success at The Brewery Field

Spennymoor Town vs AFC Telford United

Buildbase FA Trophy Third Round

Tuesday 5th February 2019, 7.45pm kick off

The Bucks are back in the North East for the sixth time this season, as Gavin Cowan takes his men to Spennymoor for an FA Trophy third round clash this evening.

It’s the Bucks’ second trip to The Brewery Field, having visited in the league back in August. Telford won 3-2 on that occasion and triumphed 2-1 when the sides met at the New Bucks Head at the start of January. The Bucks won both games against the Moors last season too.

Jason Ainsley’s men have been in fine form recently though. After a slow start to the season, Spennymoor have flown up the table and now sit 3rd, four points and two places above the Bucks. And since defeat to the Bucks four weeks ago, the Moors have won five in a row in all competitions.

The Moors have the National League North’s 3rd-best defence and 2nd-best attack. And in Glenn Taylor they boast the division’s top scorer. Taylor has 23 goals this season and has bagged six in his last six games.

The Moors reached the FA Trophy quarter finals last season and have been in impressive form in this year’s competition. Spennymoor have beaten Halesowen Town 8-2, Barwell 4-0 and Sutton United 3-0 to advance to this stage.

The Bucks, meanwhile, have already won at Spennymoor’s North East neighbours Darlington and Hartlepool in this year’s Trophy and have picked up five wins from the last seven on the road. And if Gavin Cowan’s men can chalk up another away day success tonight the Bucks will progress to the final eight of the Trophy where they will play Hemel Hempstead Town or Solihull Moors
