Bucks and Bradford look for avenue of escape
AFC Telford United vs Bradford Park Avenue
Vanarama National League North
Saturday 18th March 2017, 3pm kick-off
Telford take on Bradford Park Avenue at the New Bucks Head on Saturday, with both sides looking to return to winning ways.
Both the Bucks and Bradford have failed to pocket any points from their most recent fixtures. The Bucks have been beaten by Brackley and Chorley, while Avenue’s 4-3 loss at Stalybridge on Tuesday night made it three defeats in a row for the West Yorkshire side.
That reverse against Stalybridge came as something of a surprise, as Avenue’s away performances have been reasonable this season. Bradford have bagged 19 of their 31 points on the road and in 2017 have registered league wins at Worcester City, Curzon Ashton and Nuneaton Town.
Telford, on the other hand, have fared much better at home. Despite defeat least time out, Rob Smith’s side have picked up three victories from five at the New Bucks Head and will want to register another win this weekend.
The sides drew 1-1 at the beginning of October, but Bradford are much improved from the bottom-placed team the Bucks faced in West Yorkshire.
Having picked up just two points in the opening ten games, Avenue’s September sacking of Alex Meechan saw Mark Bower take the Horsfall hot seat. Under the former Guiseley gaffer’s guidance, Bradford have battled their way off the bottom and out of the relegation zone.
But both Bradford and the Bucks remain within touching distance of danger and will both want build a bigger gap between themselves and the battle at the bottom. Three points this weekend could prove crucial come the end of April.
